Circumcision Mission,Gabriela Silang General Hospital, May 18-19, 2009
Dubbed as “Operation Kugit” (Circumcision), 349 young boys accompanied by their parents from mostly indigent families and remote barangays throughout the province benefited from this humanitarian service headed by Vice Governor Jerry Singson (JCS) with the support of the DWRS Commando Radio under its energetic Station Manager Rosario “Chato” Alda.
Conducting the circumcision were Doctors Pocholo Baquiran, Pablo Quedado, Leslie Rafanan, Nonito Rivas, Junardine Soliven, Tria Tabboga, Ernesto Tagorda, Jr., Bong Tejano and Profirio Tugas, together with foreign volunteers Ian Barone (Medical Observer, USA) and Haesung Hong (Nurse Volunteer from Korea) with the assistance of GSGH Staff and student nurses from the University of Northern Philippines College of Nursing and College of Instructors who took charge of the Registration.
Snacks and lunch were sponsored by Vice Gov JCS who also made sure that the needed medicines remained constantly available and had to offer comforting words to young patients who cannot stop themselves from crying. Ms. Chato Alda sponsored the snacks on May 19 before the last patient was circumcised at around 5:30 p.m.
Like in all JCS Medical Missions, the GSGH was fully animated for the two days with the influx of many families for this old Christian ritual of commemorating the circumcision of Jesus Christ.
